Halloween falls on a Friday night. When I visited in North Carolina the whole town turned out in magnificent costumes, ingenious costumes, representational costumes. Familes did theme costumes.

This is a day that I have always thought about my youngest sister, Deborah.
And most often, I would call and we would talk on the phone for awhile.
She was a lovely person. When we were young she would always try to help me. I usually would loose something like my glasses, or the mouth plate for my braces which consisted of head gear, wires and tiny elastic bands. Deborah would help me search until we either found whatever I had lost or were stopped by the elders.
In my heart, I wish she was still here. I know Rhetta, Bru and I will miss her. Rhetta has consistently been there for Deborah and sat with her when she died.
I am so grateful to Rhetta for everything she has done to keep Deborah from becoming homeless and also dealing with the volumes of paperwork and various agencies involved in Deborah's care (getting them paid) while protecting Deb's estate (and us-Rhet,Bru and me) from the 'state' charging us for her care in the hospital and nursing facilities.
Pope Francis just appointed an activist Priest as the Arch Bishop in Washington D.C. Cardinal Robert W. McElroy who opposes the deportations that Trump is threatening. I think Deborah's unusual brand of religion, the one in which she would not marry her one and only partner, Ann DeGennaro, so that she could, like most spouses benefit from a partner's social security. When I asked her why she would not, she said that god would know.
